Coconut & Mango Sugar Scrub

Updated: Feb 15, 2022

Don't know about you, but days and sometimes weeks seem to pass by at the blink of an eye! In order to keep my mind and body batteries well charged, I set aside time every week to take care of myself.

If I am feeling a bit tired or run down, I've noticed that my skin becomes drier and its colour turns pale... a little bit yellow in fact! When this happens, I reach for this body scrub. It smells amazing and stimulates the skin..... wherever its rubbed in! A real zesty pick me up!

Unlike some sugar scrubs, this version is super gentle on the skin. Most of the sugar dissolves in the juices of the mango and orange, leaving the desiccated coconut to do most of the physical work to gently exfoliate. Both mango and orange contain enzymes which remove dead skin cells and brighten the skin.

Safflower is well known for its anti-inflammatory and skin softening properties and also gives this scrub its pretty colour. The coconut oil absorbs into the skin fast, leaving behind a beautiful sheen...and the coconut mixed with the orange and mango smells wonderful!

After rubbing this scrub into my skin, I rinse it off with water only and pat the skin dry. It leaves the skin glowing.

It helps to have a blender to make this scrub, but it is possible to make this scrub by hand if the mango used is very ripe. I recommend a fine grain dried, desiccated coconut to make this scrub mixture abrasive- but not too 'scratchy' on the skin.

I've given this recipe in simple measurements, so you can make as much or little as you need depending on the area of your body you wish to apply it to.

Do take care if you intend to apply this scrub to your feet (in the bath or walking so you do not slip!).

If you have any cuts on your skin, I would avoid using this scrub as it contains orange. Orange juice can make wounds sting if directly applied to them!

I hope you enjoy trying this scrub!
