All Natural Clay Skin Care Mask
Updated: Feb 28, 2022
Nigeria is a country with large reserves of natural resources, including kaolin clay.
Mineral deposits of kaolin clay can be found in Delta State as well as Adamawa, Borno, Abia, Ekiti, Kaduna, Katsina, Kogi, Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, and Plateau State.
Kaolin clay comes in many colours such as off white, red, green and rose. The colour depends on the presence and levels of naturally occurring minerals such as iron oxide and silica.
Kaolin clay is used in skin care. When applied wet as a face mask, it pulls oil and dirt from the skin when it dries. It is softer on the skin than other clays as its absorption strength is less. This makes kaolin clay most suited to dry or sensitive skin.
You can buy kaolin clay in powdered form from the market, pharmacy or shop online. Be careful not to use Calabash clay, as this is mined from areas that might have lead deposit. Lead is toxic.
I only use skincare products that I make myself on my skin. Apart from saving a LOT of money, the great thing about making your own skincare is that you can guarantee that what you are putting on your skin is fresh! And you know exactly whats in every drop.
I have eczema on my face, and also oily patches!! This recipe is gentle enough to nourish those dry spots whilst still cleaning well well.
I use this mask once every 7-10 days. I hope you enjoy trying it!
If you decide to give this recipe a go, please share your thoughts, pictures and recipe tweaks. Good luck!
Put the kaolin clay into a clean bowl.
Add the charcoal powder and stir.
Add the almond oil.
Slowly add a few drops rose water, stirring well in between each addition until the mixture turns into a fine paste.
Transfer the mixture into a clean glass jar. If you don't have an airtight jar, cover with cling wrap and store in the fridge. It will last up to 5-7 days.
You can use the mixture straight away, but I like to make it cold first. When you are ready to use it, wet your face and neck.
Apply a generous amount of the mixture and let it dry. It will begin to feel tight and crack. You will see black dots where the oil has been absorbed.
When you are ready move your face up and down and around!! It will crack all over. Take a warm wet cloth and gently rinse off the remaining mixture off your face.
Pat your skin dry and you are done! If you want to can apply face oil or your regular moisturiser.
